Jackson’s ‘Wardrobe Malfunction’ Enters Dictionary

LOS ANGELES : Pop star Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 SuperBowl has made its way into the dictionary.
The term “wardrobe malfunction” was coined after former N’Sync star Justin Timberlake who was performing with Jackson during the SuperBowl’s half-time show, ‘accidentally’ ripped off part of her bodice, revealing her right breast. More than 90 million people watching the live broadcast heard Timberlake sing, “Gonna have you naked by the end of this song,” as he reached over for her bodice.
Television network CBS was slapped with a record US$550,000 fine by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for indecency. However, the US federal appeals court overturned the fine in July this year, saying Jackson and Timberlake were “independent contractors” and CBS could not be held accountable for their actions.
“Wardrobe malfunction” is among hundreds of new additions – which include “credit crunch”, “wags” and “Blu-ray” – to the latest Chambers English Dictionary.
