Wardina Safiyyah juggles many roles as an actress, host, model and mother. SHARIFAH ARFAH finds out what else she plans to add to her resume.

THERE’S a festive air as Wardina Safiyyah Fadlullah Wilmot busies herself with the family buka puasa dinner at her home in Bukit Antarabangsa in Kuala Lumpur.

Amidst the din of children playing, guests mill around that breezy evening of this interview.

It’ll be a toned-down Hari Raya for Wardina. “My mum is in Australia and my dad is working in Bangladesh. So it’s a bit sad that my parents can’t celebrate with us,” said the mother of two – Amna Nafeesa, 5, and Azra Sareera, 2.

Wardina is expecting her third baby.
“Insyaallah (God-willing), it will be a boy,” said Wardina, who is due middle of this month.

Career-wise, Wardina is one of the most recognisable faces, thanks to her multi-faceted roles as an actress, model and host.

She has been hosting Malaysia Hari Ini since early this year, and prior to that, Wanita Hari Ini. She also made her mark hosting parenting programmes.

She will next be seen in Menatang Si Manja, to be aired over RTM. Also in the pipeline is the fourth season of teen drama Impian Ilyana over TV3.

“I enjoy hosting parenting, women and current issues programmes. I want to be known as a good host,” said Wardina.

“If I wasn’t a host or actress, I’d have been a teacher or a journalist,” added the affable 29-year-old.

As Wardina is expecting, she is taking a break from work.

Occasionally, Wardina does freelance emceeing. She also participates in “interesting” projects. “I have been working so hard. I deserve a break,” she said.

She is also well-known for being a spokesperson for Sunsilk.

“Did you know that it’s the first shampoo advertisement featuring a woman wearing a hijab? It’s wonderful, and it was shown all over the world. It also opened many doors for me,” she said.

Wardina is also the spokesperson for Anmum Essential and Slimworld.

She has taken a breather in the acting department, most notably with feature film projects. Her last feature film outing was Cinta 200 Ela in 2002.

Although acting catapulted her into a household name, Wardina isn’t perturbed about slowing down as an actress. “I shot two telemovies this year.”

Her first hosting experience was entertainment chart programme Hits from RIM with ntv7 many years ago.

While she became famous after acting in series such as Maka Diciptanya Perempuan (ntv7) and Spanar Jaya (ntv7), she started out as a model when she was six years old.

“It was a good experience. I travelled a lot. In the process, I also found out who I really was,” she said.

After full-time modelling, she acted in her first telemovie with Pesona Pictures.

“People started noticing me after Spanar Jaya. It was hugely popular, and ran for many series,” she recalled, relating the early days of her career.

Always willing to try something new, Wardina intends to pursue a degree in fine art.

“My husband is an architect, and we both love to draw. Someday, I may put up an art show,” she said.

Wardina is also writing a children’s book.

“I have been postponing it quite a bit, and hopefully this break will give me ample time.”
