Nudity no biggie for Emma

NUDITY? No big deal.

TNP PICTURE: JONATHAN CHOO

That is, for 34-year-old local actress Emma Yong, who sheds it all for director Glen Goei’s new film, The Blue Mansion.

The black comedy-mystery, which opens tomorrow, is rated NC16 and features a scene where Emma appears totally in the buff.

Audiences will see her topless, but in order for the film to meet the NC16 rating requirements, the lower half of her body is pixelated.

‘Being naked is not a big issue for me,’ said Emma, when interviewed by The New Paper at the recent Pusan International Film Festival.

The Blue Mansion was screened at the festival as part of the segment, A Window On Asian Cinema.

‘As an actress, your face and body are your instruments,’ she continued.

‘I’ll never do a naked scene if it were gratuitous. In this case, it wasn’t.’

Sex is out

While Emma’s naked stint this time round was left mostly intact – other than the pixelation touch-ups – another actor in The Blue Mansion, Adrian Pang, was not spared the axe by the local censorship board.

He had filmed a sex scene with theatre actress Chermaine Ang (who plays his mistress in the film) on a staircase, but that was eventually axed for the Singapore version.

Actors aside, director Glen, whose last film effort was the disco-themed Forever Fever, shares with readers the integrity he upholds when it comes to his movie projects.

To make his latest film, the 46-year-old even sold off his house in England.
